Keynote: Matt Malone Content: Eng Lit, Eng Lang, Calculus, Spanish Lang, French, Latin, Statistics, U.S. History, Euro History, Bio, Chem, Physics, Studio Art, 20th Century History, (World languages need to be separate – AP Spanish and French may be able to focus together Lunch with vendors (Joyce, Jessica, Bonnie – glogster, Stacy – moodle/noodle); Katie (Pearson) Tech Student speaker

October PD Conference Overall Agenda Content-break out sessions: Have breakout group with more of a focus – dbq Work on skills Contact teachers who will be attending in advance of the meeting to discuss content and focus for content-break out group. This would allow them to bring specific tools Bring student work Stations within disciplines – issue based Vendors for short technology workshops – Vernier? Pasco? PTC? Specifically applied to these AP & IB levels – broken down by discipline – or teachers could choose which station to attend. Google vendor – ½ hour presentations within discipline during working lunch? Debrief with superintendent after conference.

October PD Conference Content Breakout • Model lesson - observe actual teaching • Discuss obstacles, stumpers, activities • DBQ example – bring zip drive and paper • Summer assignment • Course syllabus • Final end of year project • Technology (facilitator of each group creates network as a takeaway) – Google group

October PD Conference Overall Agenda Have teachers present technology that they use rather than vendors – i.e. noodle tools, globster (sp?) vendors may come to schools May not be able to afford vendors’ products anyway Vendors at lunch only – afford more time for content Looking at student work in afternoon – springboard for student conferences Morning: tech that teachers use, content / instruction, student samples / assessments (afternoon) – e.g. how are you practicing open response questions? I wish we had more time to discuss how you’re instructing – teachers standing and talking about their instruction Know agenda / structure beforehand Bring in something that worked very well – identify beforehand Consider there may be teachers with limited experience

  13. October PD Conference Overall Agenda How do we ensure that veteran teachers will walk away with value added How do you review for the exam? Need fresh ideas for review. Consider timing of year for focus of instruction – bring assessments, bring example of technology use, wrap it up with how to approach global review. How to reach out to other districts? AP boot camp for younger teachers; AP veteran teacher breakouts. Menu of too many options can create circular discussion. End session with time to focus on what is needed for next year. Survey in the moment within content-group.

Spring Student Conference Overall Agenda Review: practice problems, competitions, extra review Students would need to sign up beforehand – this could get too complicated; we would like to know the number if possible; sign up on-line; at least know the number within discipline; every school could have max allotment for kids; How many overall students? How much space? Students would need to sign up. Some students may just want testing strategies 3 sub-topics within discipline: 3 one-hour review – students would need to sign up beforehand with one or two backups – registration sheet for students: every hour different topic Need lecture hall capacity to hold over 100 students Each of us could teach same sub-topic three times

Spring Student Conference Overall Agenda Students sign up – place students within sub-topics May need to limit the number of subjects – e.g. subjects with greatest difficulty; or subjects highest enrollment (Eng, History, Math) Students pick up to limit General study skills – general writing (AP and IB) – for students who sign up for only one discipline Put in PD conference: would you be willing to teach Solicit best review practices from teachers at Fall PD conference to employ with student conference. Month: late March This should be your best one hour lesson!

  16. Spring Student Conference Overall Agenda Sub-topics menu draft: Student survey: sign-up for conference in October; January – rate which disciplines would be of greatest interest to you? We know which sub-topics should be reviewed – don’t ask students to pick sub-topics Students must attend a workshop in each subject area? Come up with list of review subjects / topics, have kids sign up, fill the needs after survey. Let kids pick their schedules on the day of the review session Student survey: sign up for content areas (discipline / subject; not sub-topic) get preliminary general sense of numbers, but allow for student autonomy on the day

Relationships? Pizza. Which subject areas would you be interested in reviewing most? No social beyond the review session. Karoke – forget bowling, no leaving UMASS On-campus something fun at end – pizza – academic decathalon; trivia; physical activity with it – talk with friends over pizza; texting allowed during social SWAG – t-shirt, water bottle; highlighter; lanyard; bag full o’SWAG

Spring Student Conference Overall Agenda Survey: only fill out survey once Name Brief Description of Student Review Conference General schedule for the day: 3 one hour sessions, social at end pizza List all subjects - Check off which subjects you’re enrolled in Sign up for three sessions – can check off all three for one subject ------------------------------------------ Breakfast 3 one-hour review sessions Pizza social ------------------------------------------ Student survey (October): kids sign up, identify preferences for subject area review.
