Biographical Information • This is my tenth year teaching • Taught 7th grade science 5 years in Laveen • Taught 8th grade science 4 yrs. at Centennial • Eastern Michigan University alumna • Bachelors degree in Education • Majored in Science • Minored in Art • University of Arizona • Seeking Master’s degree • Teachers in Industry program • Summer internships at APS • Environmental • Safety • Water Resources • Graduating this December!!!!

  3. 8th Grade Curriculum Chemistry •Matter: states, density, boiling point etc. •Chemical and physical reactions •Periodic Table: elements, compounds and mixtures •Structure of the atom Physics • Newton’s laws of motion • Relationship between energy, motion, simple machines, work, and power Cells and Genetics •Cell division, growth, repair •Heredity •Gregory Mendel •DNA, genes, chromosome, genotype and phenotype Ecology • Compare symbiotic and competitive relationships • Behavioral and physical adaptations • Factors that allow for survival

  4. Materials Needed for Class • A green notebook • Folder to hold notebook paper • Loose leaf notebook paper • Writing instruments (many pencils and pens) • Highlighters (any color) • Coloring pencils (optional) • 12” metric ruler (optional) • Scissors (optional) • Glue sticks (optional)

  5. Homework (Practice) • Homework includes reviewing concepts, notes, and objectives • Homework load will vary but will take less than 30 minutes to complete. Late Work • Students may turn in assignments on time for full credit • Students may turn in assignments late for a grade lower

  6. Absences • Participation is imperative to science. • Students cannot take lab materials home with them, therefore missed labs require obtaining data from lab group and missing the hands-on learning. • It is the student’s responsibility to obtain make-up work from my website calendar, absent work bin or classmate.

  10. Grades Weighting: 90%Assessment 10% Practice Common Formative Assessment (CFA): measures progress throughout the unit (Quiz) Common Summative Assessment: measures proficiency at the end of the unit (Test)
