What’s New in Your Region? • Leadership – soliciting Atlanta Technical College to join leadership team (new bioscience curriculum and relationship with Dendreon) • Go for the Gold Initiatives- Overall region at 14.6% - large counties continue to be challenged • DeKalb continues brings Regional total down • Struggling with Renewed county participation

  3. Gold Initiatives still in place at Atlanta Tech and DeKalb Tech (with funding). Staff contact certificate holders and those not achieving certificates. Focus on GAP TRAINING Fulton – improved 81 certificate levels Clayton – improved 52 certificate levels Cobb – improved 61 certificate levels DeKalb – improved 56 certificate levels

Certified Certified Communities New Team effort in Fulton – meeting March 10th resulted in new county support Meeting with Chairman Bell in Clayton in February to get county support; meetings with Clayton Chamber and Economic Development Director to renew support Meetings in DeKalb with Chamber Director to be scheduled to renew efforts Concern over continued low levels of certificates in high schools throughout the region and lack of staff to make contacts with each school about gap training

  6. Certificate levels of High School students Clayton 93% scored bronze or silver Cobb 76% scored bronze or silver DeKalb 92% scored bronze or silver Fulton 86% scored bronze or silver

Career Pathways “Pathways to a Regulatory Career” program presented with RAPS on April 12 at Kennesaw State University 60% students, 40% unemployed or considering job change; 75% were more interested in regulatory career based on program. Plan to repeat in Atlanta and Athens area in fall What’s New in Your Region?

  10. What’s New in Your Region? 2011 Life Sciences Workforce Forum November 18, 2011 at the U.S. CDC Keynote speaker Elaine Johnson, Director of Bio-Link, City College of San Francisco GBTI Consortium meeting with Dr. Johnson following Forum

  11. Best Career Pathways Practice from your Region? Use GSTA or GACTE conference to share industry and skill needs Replication throughout state assures sustainability

  12. Issues/Concerns from your Region? Re-engagement of some regional teams where there has been a large amount of turnover Gold WRC levels in large metro counties Private sector WRC numbers
