But give it a chance and let us guide you through the process. • Reaching all learning styles

  8. Rationale Behind Teaching Methods • Research has shown that Adult learners prefer experiential learning and self directed learning • What is self directed learning? • Self-directed learning has been described as "a process in which individuals take the initiative, with or without the help of others," to diagnose their learning needs, formulate learning goals, identify resources for learning, select and implement learning strategies, and evaluate learning outcomes (Knowles 1975). • According to Knowles, “Learning is more meaningful and purposeful, with greater motivation resulting in longer retention”

  9. Lunyk-Child (2001) “found that students undergo a transformation that begins with negative feelings but ends with confidence and skills in self-direction and during this transformation it is the responsibility of teachers to provide student support” • It is our job to teach you how to learn this way and to help you along the way. We are here to HELP!!

  10. “Nurses need to be able to manage and monitor their own learning. This means that professional nurses engaged in continuous learning should have the ability to be self directed. The use of problem based learning as an instructional methodology in undergraduate nursing curricula has been identified as one way to facilitate the development of nursing students’ abilities to become self directed in learning” (Williams,B. 2001).
