  2. Welcome!! to the 2017-18 School Year • We are here today to introduce you to the Physical Education Dept. here at San Fernando Middle School. Today you will learn about the expectations, rules/policies and routines of our department, and what it means to you.

  3. Physical Education and why its important to you!!! 1. Reduced Risk of Heart Failure 2. Improved Physical Fitness 3. Weight Reduction 4. Good Health Promotion 5. Self Discipline 6. Skill Development 7. Improved Self - Confidence 8. Stress Reduction 9. Increase Their Love of School and Performance in Academics 10. Development of Lifetime Skills and Activities

  4. Expectations • Character Counts • Be a positive contributor to your class • Treat other the same as you want to be treated • Follow all rules, routines and expectations • We want this to be a positive experience for you, you get what you put into it !!!

  5. What does a typical day will look like? • Units are typically 3 – 4wks in length • Dress and Line-up for attendance • Warm-up and stretch • Unit or Activity • The agenda will be posted for the entire week, location TBA • Weather forecast will be post - PREPARE

  6. Tuesday BIC & Rainy Days If you have PE on Tuesday, you will meet your teacher in the quad! On rainy days we will be meeting in the auditorium.

  7. Physical Education Uniforms • Need to be worn everyday • Blue shorts • White/gray shirt • Grey sweats are allowed on cold days, but not as a substitute for your PE clothes, shorts & shirt under your sweats

  8. Fitness Testing Fitness Testing will be the first activity of the year. Don’t worry!!! If you try and improve you can earn a passing grade. Example, last year Alejandro, couldn’t do a push-up to start the year. He began doing push-ups at home everyday. By the end of the year he passed the fitness test!

  11. Don’t allow others to use your lockers (security) Please come to the window, don’t bang on our door. (GPE) Equipment - treat it like its yours, and turn it in. Candy, food and/or soda, please keep out of PE area Trash goes in the trash Showers area –off limits No unnecessary writing on uniforms Water fights are forbidden (safety) Mandated reporters Rules (there are a lot)

  12. Appropriate Language Fights,Tagging, Stealing and destruction of property- will be dealt with harshly. Uniforms can’t be shared (ringworm) We want to create a positive learning environment, where students feel safe and welcome. More Rules

  13. NO CELL PHONES/ACCESSORIES • Do NOT bring your phones, headphones, speakers, etc. out to PE. • Why? Stolen, broken, lost, etc. Creates a problem and a distraction • Two strikes (warning & then we’ll take it • If you take a pic, whether you pretend or not, we take the phone

Sexual Harassment • How to avoid meeting with San Fernando Police • Keep your hands to yourself! • DO NOT TAKE PICTURES OF OTHERS IN THE LOCKER ROOM! • Even if you are pretending in an attempt to be funny, no one will believe you because NO ONE WILL LOOK at your cell phone ( child pornography)

  15. General Rule • If you are cool with us we will be cool with you. If you are a positive contributor to class, we will do everything we can to help you get ahead, or catch up. • If you are disrespectful, don’t expect kindness and understanding in return

  16. Illness/Injury Notes • All notes need to be taken to the Nurse FIRST. She will give you a yellow slip to give to your PE teacher. • You are expected to dress, unless you have a cast, brace or skin condition.

  17. Grades • Grades are determined by calculating your performance • You earn your grade, NO EXTRA CREDIT! • We will provide you with a course Syllabus

  18. Changes to this year grading policy • Possible grades – A, B, C and F (there are no more D’s in this Physical Education Department) • Fitness testing is worth A LOT OF POINTS!!! Take it seriously! • If you miss a lot of class it will effect your grade

  19. Vocabulary & Written Assessment • Each of you will have a Fitness-Folio that you will keep all your written work and tests • Tests – Examples, rules test for each sport, muscle test, etc. • You will keep track of your fitness within this Fitness-Folio

  20. Schedule for the next two weeks 7th & 8th Graders * Prepare for first dress day – August 25, 2016

  22. Coach Eric see him in the gym about after school athletics

  23. After School Activities Flag Football for boys and girls has just started, find Coach Eric or go to the gym after school and find someone working for Youth Services Other sports will be played – softball, basketball…play against other middle schools in the area Mariachi Band Learning Zone – Tutoring
