  1. Home Introduction Plan Monitoring Gathering Information Survey Create a Database Leaflet Powerpoint Eportfolio Review pg1 Review pg2 D201 – Using ICT Summative Project Brief – Practice for Year 10 Theme Park It is recommended that a minimum of 30 hours should be spent working on this brief in a controlled environment. The teacher must authenticate each student's work with confidence. While some work may take place in groups, the input of the individual student must be clearly identified and the judgements and conclusions reached must be their own. Evidence must be submitted in an eportfolio that conforms to the technical specification. Symbols used in this brief    Click this symbol to open a popup window and read the helpful tip. Close the window before continuing.                       This button opens a checklist for the section – a series of questions so students gain the best possible marks.        indicates that evidence of this is required in the eportfolio.        indicates that evidence of this is NOT required in the eportfolio

  2. Home Introduction Plan Monitoring Gathering Information Survey Create a Database Leaflet Powerpoint Eportfolio Review pg1 Review pg2 D201 – Using ICT Summative Project Brief – Practice for Year 10 Theme Park Introduction There are a number of Theme parks in the UK that have a high number of visitors each year. Research has shown that there is a need to open a new theme park that will cater for the excess number that wish to go the a theme park each year. For this project you need to be able to find out about theme parks and the sort of rides, facilities and services available. You need to be able to carry out a brief survey to find out what teenagers enjoy about going to theme parks. You will need to set up a small database to enter details of visitors to your theme park. You also need to set up a new leaflet to promote the theme park and a presentation that can be shown in shopping precincts and across the web advertising the theme park. You need to create an eportfolio (website) that will allow you to present all the evidence created above for this project and finally, you need to review your work and produce a powerpoint presentation.

Home Introduction Plan Monitoring Gathering Information Survey Create a Database Leaflet Powerpoint Eportfolio Review pg1 Review pg2 D201 – Using ICT Summative Project Brief – Practice for Year 10 Theme Park Planning You need to plan carefully to make sure that you finish everything and meet the deadline. Don't forget that some tasks can be carried out away from the classroom and you should make good use of this time. • Produce a plan •        Produce a detailed plan that will enable you to complete all the tasks and meet the deadline. • There are no rules about the software you use or what your plan should look like but it must show: • a start date and finish date for the project • all the main tasks and sub-tasks in a logical order • the amount of time you plan to spend on each task and sub–task with start and finish • dates   • whether a task or sub-task is to be completed in class or at home • checkpoints when you will review your progress with your teacher and agree any changes • you need to make to your plan. • Use your plan as you work through the project.

Home Introduction Plan Monitoring Gathering Information Survey Create a Database Leaflet Powerpoint Eportfolio Review pg1 Review pg2 D201 – Using ICT Summative Project Brief – Practice for Year 10 Theme Park Monitoring Progress There is no point in spending time on your plan if you do not use it to keep yourself on track! Your plan is unlikely to be absolutely right first time and it is perfectly acceptable to make changes! You should use it to monitor your progress so that you can take action when problems occur.         You must make notes about your progress and changes you make to your plan. Keep a record that will be clear to the moderator - you could use comment boxes, a project log, a column in a table, etc.

  5. Home Introduction Plan Monitoring Gathering Information Survey Create a Database Leaflet Powerpoint Eportfolio Review pg1 Review pg2 D201 – Using ICT Summative Project Brief – Practice for Year 10 Theme Park Gathering Information For the powerpoint and leaflet you must gather information about theme parks and the sort of rides, facilities and services available – for example text, images, sound. In addition to secondary sources you must use a range of primary sources, not just your survey. For example, you could take photographs, produce drawings, make sound recordings.        Keep a record of where you find information that you want to use in your publications. For example, you might type up a table. Make it clear what is from primary and what is from secondary sources.   Make sure that you record the sources clearly so that you can acknowledge them in your eportfolio e.g. perhaps using a table in Word to do this.

  6. Home Introduction Plan Monitoring Gathering Information Survey Create a Database Leaflet Powerpoint Eportfolio Review pg1 Review pg2 D201 – Using ICT Summative Project Brief – Practice for Year 10 Theme Park Survey • What do you need to know? • You should think about what information you need from the survey before designing your questionnaire. You must find out: • what activities young people in your area take part in already • which of your ideas for activities they prefer - give them your three choices • other information that will help you choose your activity, for example: • how far they are prepared to travel • how much they are prepared to pay  • Think carefully about what personal information you need - don't ask unnecessary questions. •        Decide on 10 – 15 things you want to find out and what answers/responses you will allow. Remember that you will need to analyse the results of the survey using a spreadsheet.

  7. Home Introduction Plan Monitoring Gathering Information Survey Create a Database Leaflet Powerpoint Eportfolio Review pg1 Review pg2 D201 – Using ICT Summative Project Brief – Practice for Year 10 Theme Park Create a Database You must create a database for use at the opening of the new theme park. The database will store information about annual ticket holders. The data you need is stored as a text file in this dataset. You must create a database to store the data in an organised way so that it can be searched easily. You can find out what the data items are by looking at this list. For example the first Item is a unique four digit code that identifies each customer. Use the first two or three rows of the data to help you understand the list and work out what fields you need. Design and build a suitable database structure to store the data. Make sure that each field has a suitable data type, format and length. You should include simple validation rules to ensure that only valid data is imported.        Check that your database structure works as intended. Once you are satisfied with your database structure, import the data set. If records are rejected, check that your validation rules work as intended. Once you have completed the data structure and imported the data you need to provide evidence of the table clearly in a suitable document e.g. as a screen shot in Word. You must explain what you have done and save it appropriately.

Home Introduction Plan Monitoring Gathering Information Survey Create a Database Leaflet Powerpoint Eportfolio Review pg1 Review pg2 D201 – Using ICT Summative Project Brief – Practice for Year 10 Theme Park Leaflet • You must produce a leaflet to promote the theme park and persuade people of all ages • to visit. • It must have four A5 pages and must include: • an attractive cover page • information about the Theme Park • details of the facilities/attractions, services, prices and transport links • what else is on offer • a promotional voucher for discounted entry to the theme park You must acknowledge any sources you use, both primary and secondary.

  9. Home Introduction Plan Monitoring Gathering Information Survey Create a Database Leaflet Powerpoint Eportfolio Review pg1 Review pg2 D201 – Using ICT Summative Project Brief – Practice for Year 10 Theme Park Powerpoint • You must create a presentation for the new season at the Theme Park. This will run on a standalone PC. • You may use any suitable software – think carefully about what you want to achieve. • Users must be able to move around by clicking the mouse. • There is no need to produce more than six screens. • You must include: • brief information about the Theme Park • what the theme park can offer. • information about the facilities/attractions • information about the prices, services and transport links • what else is on offer • how to use the promotional vouchers in the leaflet • Use a storyboard to design the screens for your information point. • You must use relevant images including at least two from primary sources. You may want to include sound if appropriate. • Create the presentation using your storyboard to help you. Make sure that the user can decide when and how to move from screen to screen. • You must acknowledge any sources you use, both primary and secondary.

  10. Home Introduction Plan Monitoring Gathering Information Survey Create a Database Leaflet Powerpoint Eportfolio Review pg1 Review pg2 D201 – Using ICT Summative Project Brief – Practice for Year 10 Theme Park Eportfolio • You must present the required evidence in an eportfolio. • It is important that the structure of your eportfolio is logical so that the moderator can move around and find all the evidence. The moderator has a limited amount of time – make life easier for him or her! • The eportfolio should include these pages: • a home page • contents/menu page(s) • context or commentary pages where you provide a brief commentary to introduce a piece of • evidence and a link to it • Preparing the evidence • Every item of evidence in the eportfolio must be in an acceptable format. • This table lists all the file formats that you may use. You must NOT include file types that are not on the list: • html, htm, xml • txt • pdf • swf • mov, avi, wmv • jpg, png, gif, tif • pps, ppt • Build the eportfolio using Dreamweaver and the user guide that your teacher has

  11. Home Introduction Plan Monitoring Gathering Information Survey Create a Database Leaflet Powerpoint Eportfolio Review pg1 Review pg2 D201 – Using ICT Summative Project Brief – Practice for Year 10 Theme Park Review When you have finished everything else, you must carry out a review of the whole project. Think about what went well and what went wrong so that you can learn by your mistakes next time. Remember that the audience for this is the moderator. Try to be honest, even when talking about yourself! You must consider these three areas: • 1 The project as a whole • Think about: • what the project set out to achieve • to what extent you have met the objectives • how well your plan worked • how well you managed your time • whether you chose the right people as your test users and reviewers • what, if anything, went wrong • what others had to say • what improvements you would make if you had time • what you would do differently if you did the project again • Use feedback from others to support what you have to say.

  12. Home Introduction Plan Monitoring Gathering Information Survey Create a Database Leaflet Powerpoint Eportfolio Review pg1 Review pg2 D201 – Using ICT Summative Project Brief – Practice for Year 10 Theme Park Review • 2 The publications • For each one, think about: • whether each one gets the right message across to the intended audience • whether each one is fit for purpose, including the design as well as content • how each one could be improved – make use of feedback from others here • to what extent the eportfolio is well structured and easy to use – again, include comments from reviewers • 3 Your own performance • Questions you should ask include:  • How well did you work during the project? • How do you think your work on this project affected your performance in • other work? • How have you benefited from working on the project? • What would you do differently if you did the project again? Create your review using Powerpoint including as much detail as you can to cover the three points above. Finally add your review to your eportfolio (website) and make sure that your whole eportfolio works. Congratulations, you have now completed the practice project
