  11. Ned’s people were bullied by the white men for ages. But the white people changed when the Navajos were needed in WWII. Ned went to boarding school to learn to speak English. Little did he know, he would need the skills to speak each language. It may even help save his country. When Ned heard about the war with Japan, he decided to help his country. He joined the marines and went to boot camp, where he learned about his special mission. His bilingual skills would help in the war. His job was to send messages to allies on and off of the battlefield. He would speak in Navajo over the radio so that the Japanese couldn’t interpret what he was saying.
