  1. UNCLAS 2013 FLEET CURRICULUM CONFERENCE HMCM (SW/AW/FMF) Gida T. Mamaril, USN UNCLAS

  2. UNCLAS • FMF – forward deployed with Marines have rough time transitioning when met with 12-20 patients • Evaluate thoroughly even “SB Commandos”, • never presume malingering • Even someone who trumps up severity on a daily basis can develop true pathology • 2/3 or 9/10 pain can be equal level • Accept to find frustration from time to time UNCLAS

  3. UNCLAS • Ask for guidance or advise • Medical providers work a team approach • Not burdening anyone • FPs, Pas, FS, IDCs routinely ask guidance for unfamiliar cases • Most junior clinicians (time in training total) • are least likely to ask questions; • - makes them look weak or unprepared UNCLAS

  4. UNCLAS • Balance • Be helpful but set boundaries • Talk to SMO if going under • Ex: SCPO demands atenolol be refilled @ 2000 or NOW!! Even though he knew 2 weeks ago he needed refill UNCLAS
