  1. Going Through HardshipsActs 14 Doug Brownaudio, pdf, and power point available @ karenvineyard.org

  2. a man crippled . . . lame from birth . . . never walked.

  3. The Lessons of Hardship “ . . . for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12.11

  4. Two Features of Paul’s Speech 1) In the past, he [God] let all nations go their own way – alluding to progressive unfolding of divine redemption. v.16 2) He had shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops – Paul’s demonstration of the interest and goodness of God is drawn from nature. v.17

  5. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship . . . 2 Tim. 4.5

  6. You suffer from smoke produced by the firewood you fetched yourself. African Proverb When God cooks, you don't see smoke. Zambian Proverb

  7. To choose to suffer means that there is something wrong; to choose God's will even if it means suffering is a very different thing. No healthy saint ever chooses suffering; he chooses God's will, as Jesus did, whether it means suffering or not. Oswald Chambers

  8. Sharing in Hardship I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Yet it was good of you to share in my troubles. Philippians 4.13-14

  9. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. 2 Corinthians 1.3-5

  10. “The most important aspect of Christianity is not the work we do, but the relationship we maintain and the surrounding influence and qualities produced by that relationship. That is all God asks us to give our attention to, and it is the one thing that is continually under attack.” –Oswald Chambers

  11. Gaining from Hardship I am greatly encouraged; in all our troubles my joy knows no bounds. 2 Corinthians 7.5

  12. Gain a new sense of value If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. 1 Corinthians 13.3 Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses . . . having nothing, and yet possessing everything. 2 Corinthians 6.4 & 10

  13. Gain new relationships “He came to Derbe and then to Lystra where a disciple named Timothy lived . . .” Acts 16.1

  14. Gain a fresh perspective Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4.16-18

  15. If God breaks your leg, He will teach you how to limp. Ghanaian Proverb
