Football Facts: History: various forms of foot-ball have been played throughout time however the current sport of Football was formalised in English public schools as far back as the XVIth century. Thus England is often called the home of football for that reason. Game: 2 teams of 11 players play on a rectangular pitch for a total of 90 minutes split into 2 halves and must score points by kicking the ball into a goal which is protected by a goal keeper. The members of the team assume defensive and offensive positions, each one playing a particular post (e.g. midfielder) National Colours: each team sports their colors, typically similar to the colours of their national flag. Likewise a national team is often dubbed by the colour of their shirts (e.g. French team  les “Bleus”). Their fans generally wear the same colored clothes to support their team. World Cup: every 4 years the FIFA organises a competition in which participate the 32 best national teams. In the first instance they are grouped into 8 pools of 4 teams. The best teams of each pool then proceed to the 8th finals, quarter finals, semi finals and then THE final for the 2 best teams. It is estimated that 1 Billion people will watch the world cup in 2014!!

  3. French football team: National colours : The team’s national colours are blue , white and red like the French flag. How many times they won : France only one once at the FIFA world cup in 1998.

  4. Brazil football team: How many times they won: National colors: Brazil won the FIFA World Cup 5 times. It’s a world record!!!!!!!! Brazil’s national colours are green, yellow, blue and white.
