  6. Introduction A Technology Proposal for my Science Classroom at L.V. Rogers High School in Nelson, B.C..  Intended Audience:L.V. Roger's High School's administration. School Motto:  “We will be the change we want to see”. School Goal: “To improve upon the academic success of all learners, in order to provide them with the best possible opportunity for achieving their goals.” School Objective: “To utilize technology to improve engagement”. Committee Vision:  “To utilize technology to improve engagement.”

  7. Introduction Cont'd School Mission: “Encourage each student to achieve excellence and develop individual potential.” School Needs:  " To be able to provide our 21st Century learners with the tools they need to learn in today's modern world." School Priorities: "The student's needs comes first." Solutions: The greatest challenge in fulfilling the "wish list" for the my classroom and all other teachers in the school is to have the money to be able to buy the costly materials, equipment, etc. Given that we are in a recession and the budget is continually being cutback the challenge is to find money else where in the form of grants, etc. How will we use technology to achieve our goals and complete our mission? We will attempt to become "state of the art" so that students can be current, be engaged and be global learners.

  8. Introduction Cont'd              Using the Technology Maturity Model Benchmark evaluation tool (EDmin, 2009) from a recent assignment, I determined that L.V Rogers High School is in the Islands stage of technology use (Kelly, 2009). Looking at the chart below, notice that the school still has a great deal of maturing to do to grow out of the first Emergent stage, to the second Islands stage, then to the third Integrated stage, and finally to the final Intelligent stage. (Kelly, 2009)

  9. "Students will use engaging technologies in collaborative, inquiry-based learning environments with teachers who are willing and able to use technology's power to assist them in transforming knowledge and skills into producing solutions, and new information." (Nesbitt, B. J. , 2007)

  10. Vision To: • engage students (learner-centered learning). • offer students the means to be successful in a global society, to graduate and get future jobs. • guarantee students the opportunity to use technology as a tool to learn by doing, to improve communication, enhance thinking skills, create, analyze, evaluate, apply, make instruction more efficient and effective, and develop life skills critical to success.  •  integrate technology into all the curricular areas.

  11. Technology My Classroom Goals: • To be a life-long learner and to promote life-long learning. • To continue to grow and evolve as new and useful technology tools become available. • To take advantage of  training and tech support. • To align the technology in my class with education standards elsewhere. • To increase the computer/technology abilities of myself as a facilitator and of students.               The newly acquired technology that I get in my class will help me to               better achieve my educational goals and realize my vision.

  26. Solutions Comparison Of What I Have Now With What I Want In comparing what I have now, with what I want, I would have to say that I would do a much better job of teaching 21st Century Learners, with 21st Century Equipment. But, having said that, keep in mind that there are many ways to be engaged and to partake in learner-centered learning. (look at the photos that I have presented) The tools of technology will help me reach my goals and attain my vision more effectively, and I will also be more engaged as a facilitator. Alternate sources of funding –CBT grant for community development. –Telus grant. –Corporate sponsorship for equipment.

  28. 21 Century Learners, 2009

  29. Summary In this Technology Proposal for my classroom, I have made a case for needing to have some technology tools in my class to prepare myself better for the 21st Century Learner. Once this plan has been formalized, then the remaining steps in the plan will be followed:            5. Implement            6. Evaluate            7. Revise It will be and need to be checked continuously (Love, 1996).
