  2. What are nouns? • Nouns are words that name people, places, things or ideas. There are different types of nouns such as common nouns, abstract & concrete nouns, proper nouns and collective nouns. • Ex: Car, cat, Elizabeth, and Starcraft are all nouns.

  3. What is a direct object? • A direct object is a noun or a pronoun that receives the action of a transitive verb. *Be sure that when you are looking at this presentation to breath and monitor your stress level

  4. Examples of direct objects • Amandla ran home. • Malika ate the food. • Cemil read a big book. • Laila kicked the ball across the street.

  5. What is an indirect object? • An indirect object is a noun or a pronoun that indicates for whom or to whom the action of a verb in a sentence is directed to. The indirect object in a sentence usually comes right after the verb.

  6. Examples of indirect objects • Cemil gave Amandla the book. • Malika kicked Laila the ball. • Amandla gave me a present.

  7. What is the object of a preposition? • The object of a preposition is the noun or pronoun that comes after a preposition to complete the statement.

  8. Examples of the objects of prepositions • At lunch, Laila gave her sandwich to a dog. • Amandla hid her diary under her bed. • Malika gave the paper to the teacher. • Cemil wondered if he could fit underneath the desk.

  9. What are predicate nominatives? • Predicate nominatives are the nouns or pronouns that follow a linking verb.

  10. Examples of predicate nominatives • Cemilis a boy. • Amandla, Laila, and Malikaaregirls. • She was our 10th grade English teacher. • My dog is the winner.
