  1. What are the Types of Public Transport that Students can Avail in Wellington Well-known as the cosmopolitan capital city of New Zealand, Wellington is home to an extensive public transport system comprising five types of transport facilities, namely city buses, trains, ferries, cable cars, and taxis. Students settled down in Wellington can avail these services for ease of commuting and traveling around the city and outside it. This also ensures students have ample amount of time devoted to studies and also a little of it to spend in leisure.

  2. The City Buses Apart from well-designed student accommodation Wellington, the city has an extensive transport system and one major backbone of the transport facilities are the city bus services comprising the City Center buses, Hutt Valley Buses, Porirua, Kapiti Coast Buses, and Airport Buses. Known as GoWellington branded buses, the City Center buses operate across the city center and suburbs. The Hutt Valley buses offer flyer services between Upper Hutt and Wellington city centre. The Porirua and Kapiti Coast buses offer regular commuter services between Porirua, Whitby, Titahi Bay, Johnsonville, and more. The airport flyer connects regions like Wellington Airport to the city centre, Queensgate and Lower Hutt.

  3. Trains in Wellington The trains in Wellington are the fastest way to commute daily, to routes that cover areas between the Wellington Station and its surrounding districts. The railway network is operated under the ownership of Transdev Wellington with trains that run on a five-line 154-kilometre (96 mi) commuter network. There are five train lines operating currently in Wellington, namely- Hutt Valley Line (hvl), Johnsonville Line (jvl), Kapiti Line (kpl), Melling Line (mel), and Wairarapa Line (wrl). Cable Car Another major benchmark achieved by the public transport in Wellington are the network of Cable Cars that run between the central city towards the suburban hills of Kelburn. It is a system that is regularly used by students of Victoria University, by commuters travelling to and from work, and also by those who want to travel and explore Wellington Botanic Garden. The service is governed and operated by Wellington Cable Car Ltd.

  4. Ferries Wellington also operates ferries mainly for recreational purposes but these are also viable means of transport available for the public. There are two ferry routes that are operated by ‘East by West’, a private company. The service plies daily between central Wellington and Days Bay which is situated near Eastbourne. The service also runs on peak times serving Seatoun and also takes tourists and students to the ‘Harbour Explorer Excursion’ on weekends. These aforementioned public transport facilities provide easy ways and means to travel hassle free and in the most cost-effective manner. Students in Wellington can avail these services and also look for student discounts on travel and commute. University Living. offers purpose-built student accommodation Wellington and also ensure that the properties have easy access to the city’s public transport system.
