  2. What is Twitter?? • Social networking site • Contains messages that are no larger than 140 characters • Messages can contain anything you want! • Everyone from Lady Gaga to JT Kuzior is on Twitter Keep your eyes peeled for these little guys.

  3. What can it be used for? • Social Contact • Advertising & Sales/Deals • Asking Questions • Picture & Video Sharing • Website Sharing • 40% of all “Tweets” are considered “Pointless Blabble” – Recent Study

  4. Lingo • Tweet – What you post to your twitter account. • @ = posting something directed at another twitter user, flags on their page. • Retweet or RT – Sharing a tweet from another user with all your followers. • Hash or # - Flags your tweet to a common topic. • Shorthand – ur, u, dl, r, lol

  5. Uses in the Classroom • Parent Communication – Direct Messaging • Classroom News Ticker • Helpful Links • School Events • Emergency Information • Post Pictures Easily

Safety Concerns • You control what gets put on to your profile. • The tweets you get from the people you follow is not public (Home Page). • People can see who you follow though… • You can block people from following you. • Whatever you post is public, instantly…. • Be smart & think ahead before tweeting.

  7. Advantages • Free!! • Paperless – Cost Cutting • Instant News & Updates • Fast, Fast, Fast – Saves Time • Direct Parents To Anything Pertaining to Class….. • Parents & Students Could Already Be Using It!

  8. Twitter Doesn’t Work??? • From time to time, Twitter doesn’t work. • Maintenance, Overload, Who Knows?? • “Fail Whale”

  9. You Tube Can be used to upload classroom movies/videos. Can be as safe or unsafe as you make it. Ideas Include: Projects, News Updates, Classroom Tour, Instructional Movies, What we are up to, etc. Account is Free, very easy to use.

  10. More You Tube Managing your movies Where are they and how to I change or get rid of them? How can I use them? HTML or embedding Keeping them how you want them -Comments, Voting, Public/Private, etc.
