  4. Safe, Healthy, Welcoming SchoolsBuilding Goal: Halverson Elementary will raise the positive public perception from 70% to 80% as measured by the spring 2011 Parent Survey.

  5. Increasing Opportunity & AchievementBuilding Goal: Halverson’s students in grades 3-6 will score 74% proficient on the spring 2011 Reading MCAII assessments. In 2010, Halverson students scored 62.4% proficient on the spring 2010 MCA-II assessments

  6. Technology Building Goal: 100% of certified staff will create & maintain a current a working website as of May, 2011.

  7. Principal Comments Students have been engaged during the first round of reading MCAs . Personally, I am really looking forward to the planning, collaboration, alignment, and work that will align and strengthen our district.

  11. Safe, Healthy, Welcoming SchoolsBuilding Goal: The percentage of parents responding to “strongly agree” on the parent satisfaction survey will increase from 35% to 45% in their view of Hawthorne’s public image.

Increasing Opportunity & AchievementBuilding Goal: The percentage of students in grades 3-6 who are proficient on the MCA-II Reading Test will increase 4.86% from 65% to 69.86% for the 2011 school year will all student groups meeting or exceeding the state proficiency average on the MCA-II Reading test by the 2012.

  13. Technology Building Goal: 100% of HW licensed staff will have a working Website aligned with the new district Website by April 5, 2011 with 50% or more of staff exploring new technologies to enhance teaching and/or communication

Principal Comments • MCA testing is in full swing • Most all teachers now have started or have an active blog/wiki following the SD day on April 5th. • Final visit with Cheryl Nash to evaluate end of the year data (AimsWEB and NWEA) on May 24th. • Karen Zwolenski meeting with bldg leadership team on April 12th and will spend the day with staff on May 24th. • Floats and Fun: Hawthorne Spring Family Activity May 19th

  27. Increasing Opportunity & AchievementBuilding Goal: % of students in grades 3-6 who are proficient on the MCA reading and math tests will increase to 74.71 and 70.46 respectively in 2011.

  28. Technology Building Goal: 100% of licensed staff will use and learn one new technology to integrate with students.

  29. Principal Comments This month’s focus has certainly centered around preparation and logistics concerning both reading and math MCA’s. Creating a 2nd lab for math begins next week. BLT created personal notes from every staff member to students testing as encouragement and principal visited each classroom to talk about perseverance and alleviate anxiety that MCA’s tend to create. Has been fun to see more student writing and guided writing lessons in classroom observations and through student work on walls within the building. Technology issues are preventing some of the ITV planning for us to host instructors from the Cowles center for Latin and Eastern Dance. Great opportunity we hope not to miss. Teachers are very excited at Sibley about the opportunity for the new Science curriculum. The presentation done on our last EO was very well supported. This needs to happen.

  36. Technology Building Goal: 100% of licensed staff will choose one new technology tool and integrate it into their curriculum for use with students or parents.

  37. Principal Comments April has been a successfully month so far. The PowerPoint created by the SW transition team has been well-received by the School Board, SW Staff and parents. Early-Out day—exciting to have the “new” team at Southwest. Teachers were upbeat and ready to dig into the curriculum work and planning.

  45. Principal Comments Plans are progressing for the transition of the eighth graders to Albert Lea High School next year. A focus has been placed on introducing eighth graders to the integration of technology in our classrooms, and teaching students effective study skills. We have created a “house concept” in our building where eighth and ninth graders will go to take their core subjects of math, science, social studies and English. Students in grades 10-12 will have their own house where they will receive instruction in the core subjects. ALHS is looking at implementing transitional programs for all students that will focus on making them feel welcomed in our school. For 8th and 9th graders this will include a program titled Link Crew. A proposal is being considered to have a daily 15 minute advisory period for grades 8 to 12, with an emphasis on building relationships and connections with students.  Students who feel connected to school, and or staff, are more likely to participate in school based activities, have consistent attendance and have higher academic achievement.

Safe, Healthy, Welcoming SchoolsBuilding Goal:100% of the staff at the Albert Lea Area Learning Center will engage in the PBIS school wide support system working with the building motto of “Be Here, Be Respectful, Be Responsible”. Staff will engage in bi-weekly student advisory meetings to help decrease the number of office referrals during the 2010-11 school year.

  50. Increasing Opportunity & AchievementBuilding Goal: The percentage of students in the 10th grade at the Albert Lea Area Learning Center who are proficient on the MCA-II Reading assessment will increase from 31.25% to 41% during the 2010-11 school year. Students will have at least 85% attendance during the school year.
