MODIS Mission Components • The MODIS instrument is a multispectral, cross-track scanning radiometer that acquires continuous, global data at moderate resolutionsbetween 250 m and 1000 m • Terra MODIS passes from N to S across the equator in the morning (10:30) • Aqua MODIS passes from S to N across the equator in the afternoon (13:30) MODIS flies in a 705 km Sun-synchronous orbit with a ±55° off-nadir field-of-view, which produces a swath width of 2330 km in a single pass. This allows MODIS to observe any location twice daily in the mid to high latitudes (one daytime and one nighttime pass) 4
