  1. Alon Nachmany - Tips to Protect Your Computer from Viruses and Malware We use internet-connected devices in almost every area of our lives nowadays. We use the internet to look for information, shop, bank, do homework, play games, and communicate with family and friends through social media. As a result, our computers store a vast amount of personal data about us. This may include banking and other financial documents, as well as medical information—all of which we want to keep private. Hackers and other fraudsters will be able to gain access to your computers and steal your personal details if they are not secured. On your machine, malicious viruses or spyware may be installed, slowing it down or deleting files. According to cybersecurity expert Alon Nachmany, you can protect your privacy and your family by using safety measures and good practices to protect your computers. He has given the following advice to help you and your risk while online: Antivirus software: Antivirus software protects your computer from viruses that can corrupt your data, cause your device to slow down or crash, or allow spammers to send email via your account. Antivirus software searches your files and incoming email for viruses, then deletes those that are found. To deal with the new "bugs" circulating the internet, you must keep your antivirus program up to date. When you are online, most antivirus software has a feature that automatically downloads updates. Additionally, ensure that the program is constantly running and scanning your system for viruses, especially if you are downloading files from the internet or checking your email. Keep up-to-date: Regularly update your device, browser, and critical apps, taking advantage of automatic updates when they are available. These updates will help to fix security vulnerabilities that allow hackers to monitor your activities or steal data. Microsoft provides Windows Update as a service. It will download and install software updates for Microsoft Windows, Internet Explorer, and Outlook Express, as well as provide you with security updates. Other systems, such as the Macintosh Operating System, can also be patched automatically. Use stronger authentication: Choose passwords that are difficult to guess to keep intruders out of your computers and accounts. Passwords should be at least eight characters long and contain a mix of letters, numbers, and special characters. Using no words or references to personal details, such as a birthday, that are easily contained in a dictionary. Make a phrase out of the first letter of each word in the phrase to help you remember your password. Create separate passwords for each online account you use, whether it's a bank, social media, or email.
