  1. Project Problem Solver By: Matthew King Dogs running around the neighborhood 2/7/12 Period 3

  2. The Problem • The problem is dogs and cats running loose around the neighborhood and the animals are also having too many puppies, kittens, and other pets themselves. • Other dogs could attack your dog or it could be hit by a car • When you lose animals that aren’t on leases they can pack up(dangerous) or even revert back to the wild

  3. Problem(Explained) • Animals roaming free can collect parasites, rabies from skunks or raccoons, lose millions of dollars in insurance claims, medical bills, property damage, car accidents, pet overpopulation and euthanizing.

  4. Who is affected by this? • Every neighborhood with dogs and cats is affected by this. For example, every time my neighbor lets his dogs out they tear up people’s yards, go through trash, and bark at people and scare their kids.

  5. Root Cause/ Scope of Problem • Scope of the problem: Local • Root Cause: Some people just let their dogs run loose because they don’t have leashes, some people like seeing their dog run around, and some are just lazy owners or don’t have leashes.

  6. 3 Possible Solutions • One possible solution is to hand out free leashes and offer obedience classes so your dog or cat doesn’t run loose and so you can control them. • The second possible solution is you must have a license to own a dog or cat and a leash to walk a dog. • The third solution is if you see a dog or cat running loose call animal control. • The best solution would be to hand out free leashes and offer obedience classes in the community.

  7. Letter to Ed Butler • Dear Ed Butler, • There is a big problem that is called dogs running around the neighborhood, when I always walk outside I see dogs barking at my neighbors. It is a big problem in Seaford and I think we should abolish it. We could start something like a leash club that helps people learn how to walk dogs, maybe give out a few leashes or maybe even call a number to get the animals and send them to a place that helps them find a new home. Every neighborhood with a dog is affected by this and it would also keep 72% of all cats on the street from getting euthanized. People lost millions of dollars in insurance claims, medical bills, property damage, and they could attack a kid or something else. • Your Friend, • Matthew King
