Alarming Facts Sharp rise in cancer cases seen in Gujarat – Of the nearly seven lakh cancer cases detected every year in the India, Gujarataccounts for 40,000 new ones. – fact revealed at the two-day national seminar held at Vadodara by the Indian Society of Oncology. The World Health Organisation estimates that in India overall, there are over 800,000 new cases of cancer and nearly 600,000 cancer-related deaths documented each year.

Cancer is curable All cancers are curable to a certain extent, provided we get an optimum combination of radio, chemo and surgical treatment,” said Gujarat Cancer Research Institute (GCRI) director Pankaj Shah. We are all born with cancer genes and nature has provided us with an in-built mechanism that suppresses this gene. The golden rule for preventing cancer is to avoid certain lifestyle patterns that might act as a trigger for this disease

  5. Your Task: Join us as volunteers to conduct an in depth study about cancer, the causes and preventive measures. Visit our institute to understand about cancer. Conduct to survey using the questionnaire provided to collect first hand information about the nature of patients suffering from cancer. Devise an awareness plan which can include skits, awareness rally, poster / flyer making, etc. You have to ensure that you reach out to the global community to spread awareness about cancer.

  6. Support: • We will provide you with all the support documents that your groups need for conducting the study, • Support documents: • List of websites for your study • Questionnairefor conducting survey • The entire process should take not more than 4 weeks.
