Water: Who wants it? • China, India, Brazil, and South Africa are the countries that will need water the most to meet industrial and population growth. • Southern United States is suffering from water shortages.
Water Regional water shortages in North America will become acute with: • growth of urban centres • overtaxed aquifers • drought conditions • shrinking glaciers and over-allocated rivers.
Water • Pressure is building on Canada to share its rich water supply more abundantly notably with the U.S. southwest, whose booming population is draining the region's fresh-water basin several times faster than nature can replenish it. • 2/3 of U.S. states reported they expect water shortages within 10 years.
Water protection in Canada International Boundary Waters Treaty Act (IBWTA): Canada has protections in place to prohibit the bulk removal of water from boundary waters, such as the Great Lakes. The prohibition is an environmental measure designed to preserve the integrity of boundary waters ecosystems.
