  2. Cross Career Learning Communities - CCLC Presented by Dr. Susan Taylor and Ms. Connie Parrish

  3. CCLC –What is it? Cross Career Learning Community – A professional learning community that is based on the structure of Critical Friends Groups (CFGs) and includes both novice and experienced educators CCLCs are designed to: • mentor and retain new teachers • draw on the particular expertise of its members (novice and experienced teachers, administrators, and university faculty) to increase student achievement • use structured conversations to focus on student work, dilemmas of practice, and data from individual classrooms and the school as a whole

CCLC –What’s in it for schools? • Teacher development CCLC members support one another in improving instructional practices and untangling professional dilemmas with the goal of increasing student achievement • Teacher retention 86% of new teachers who participated in CCLCs returned for a second year of teaching (Black & Neel, 2007) • School & system level capacity building CCLC membership opens the door for school and system personnel to grow facilitative leadership skills

CCLC: NET-Q Year 1 Highlights • Year 1 Summer Institute participants: • Atlanta: Beecher Hills ES • Cobb: Lindley MS • Clayton: Teacher Development Specialists • Dekalb: Rock Chapel ES • Fulton: Dunwoody Springs ES • Gwinnett: Nesbit ES, Lilburn MS, South Gwinnett HS, Meadowcreek HS • Monthly professional learning for CCLC school coaches • On-site coaching and technical support by NET-Q CCLC coordinators

Coaches in Residence Fall 2010/Spring 2011 • 100% requests fulfilled (10) Fall 2010 • About 70% (11 of 16) requests fulfilled Spring 2011 • Highlights: • Resources for research-based practices provided • Professional learning opportunities at conferences • On-site lessons modeled, observations, feedback • Collaboration among teachers supported Fall 2011 Requests • CIR is the MOST popular initiative • Total of 19 requests • Matches based on: • Availability of U. expertise* • Possibility of continuing growth • Previous unfulfilled requests • Matches delayed because of personnel changes at U. • Possibly “double-up” CIRs

ECE Graduate Programs Offered with NETQ Partners Collaborative Master’s Program (CMP) Flexible scheduling On-site visits by faculty Math and literacy as content area foci Educational Specialist program (Ed.S.) Regional groups in NETQ school districts Integration of TIP for interested teachers Content focus flexible to meet teachers’ needs

ECE Undergraduate Program Revisions All newly certified teachers from GSU’s ECE program will have either: • ECE certificate withESOL Endorsement OR • ECE certificate with Special Education Certificate Field placements will continue to include developmental progression through grade levels in addition to specialized placements in ESOL and SpEd contexts

  11. Mentor Training Modules Goals: • Create a free resource for teachers learning how to be mentors • Incorporate resources, activities available for facilitated sessions • Align with TSS and Coaching endorsement standards • Offer national experts on professional mentoring for teachers

  12. Mentor Training Modules Progress: • Content creation for topics • Two national experts interviewed; 10+ scheduled • Web-based modules designed based on adult and problem-based learning theories • Scripts for on-site videos (case studies) in progress
