  2. What’s the problem? 2 small channels, next toeachother Namedby: Shipdonkchannel (Stinker) Leopold channel (Blinker) Too small andtooundeepfor big seaships  They want tobroaden the Shipdonkchannel (not the leopoldchannel)

  3. Facts and Consequences Ca. 630 million euros (It’s just a fraction of the price!) 187 homes are threatened with expropriation Others are facing a weakening of their land Trees, water birds, agricultural land and open spaces will be lost

  4. Facts and Consequences Catering and tourism sector will go down Increased risk of flooding and floods In dry and warm summers there will be not enough water to fill the wide channel Conclusion: The unique atmosphere and the historic landscape will be gone.

  5. Alternatives ‘estuary shipping’ This means that barges will be converted into seaworthy ships to sail along the coast to other ports.
