  4. Carbon Cycle • Living things are made up of four elements; carbon, oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen.

  5. Carbon • Carbon is considered the essence of life • The structure of any living thing is composed of carbon and its compound.

  6. Carbon atoms are everywhere • In animals • Plants • Seas • Soil, • Rock • All the important substances that make up the human body

  7. Carbon Cycle: Step 1 • The first process in the carbon cycle diagram is when plants use carbon dioxide from the air in photosynthesis • Plant cells in return release oxygen into the air

  8. Carbon Cycle: Step 2 • Animals take in the oxygen in respiration and eat plants containing carbon • Both plants and animals return carbon dioxide back to the atmosphere through ~ respiration (inhale/exhaling) ~digestion (waste) ~metabolism (diet) ~to the soil when they decay.
