  3. Pearl Harbor • Why Pearl Harbor? • Proximity to island of Japan • Launching point IF the U.S. were to ever attempt to invade • Location of U.S. Pacific Fleet • Surprise attack…Japanese were expected from area south of Hawaii

  4. Pearl Harbor • Significance of Pearl Harbor Day • Sunday morning – sailors were asleep, or at church and not expecting anything to happen • Most of the country, as a whole, was at church…shock and horror felt by all • The “Greatest Generation’s” 9/11 (JFK assassination, Challenger, 9/11)
