  14. Lament Advice From the Psalmists If we look at these psalms of lament as a group, we discover three words of advice from the psalmists who wrote them. 1.  Look _____________ Psalms 7:3ff O Lord my God, if I have done this, If there is injustice in my hands, Psalms 26 Vindicate me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity; And I have trusted in the Lord without wavering.  INWARD

  15. Lament The psalmist first looks at his situation to see if his own sin has caused it.  If so, he asks for forgiveness and restoration.

  16. Lament UPWARD 2.  Look _____________ Psalms 3:8 "From the Lord comes deliverance"Psalms 25:15 "My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only He will release my feet from the snare." The psalmists knew that their only real help would come from the Lord God.  After confessing any known sin, they put their faith in God to deliver them out of the situation, or sustain them within it.

  17. Lament OUTWARD 3.  Look ______________ Psalm 5:11 "...let all who take refuge in You be glad; let them ever sing for joy.  Spread Your protection over them, that those who love Your Name may rejoice in You." Psalm 25:22 "Redeem Israel, O God, from all their troubles!" Even though the psalmist was experiencing great sorrow, he was able to look past his situation to others and to intercede for them.

Types of Psalms • Thanksgiving Psalms: • Songs that praise God for His specific help or deliverance in a situation • Can be for individual or group Psalm 40:1-2 I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry.
