  2. Co-Teaching Co-teaching is two or more people sharing responsibility for teaching some or all of the students assigned to a classroom. It involves the distribution of responsibility among people for planning, instruction, and evaluation for a classroom of students. Home

  3. Special Education Special education is in place to provide additional services, support, programs, specialized placements, or environments to ensure that all students' educational needs are provided for. Home

  4. Inclusion Students with disabilities must be educated in regular education settings to the maximum extent appropriate in light of their needs, and prohibit their exclusion unless education there cannot be achieved satisfactorily even with appropriate supplementary aids and services. Home

  5. Resource Center It is for the student who qualifies for either a special class or regular class placement but needs some special instruction in an individualized or small group setting for a portion of the day. Individual needs are supported in resource rooms as defined by the student's IEP. Home

  6. Itinerant or Consultative Services The teacher and/or student receives assistance from a specialist who may serve many students at many schools. Home

  7. Home School Teaching children at home, rather than sending them to a public or private school. Home schooling is perhaps the fastest growing trend in education in this country. Students receive the individualized attention they need based on a customized curriculum. Home

  8. Hospital Setting If a child is in need of medical help, they are able to receive treatment and still go to school. Many times there are teachers that specialize in teaching only at hospitals. Home

  9. Self-Contained A self-contained classroom is one in which the students share similar academic requirements. For example, all the gifted children in a school or school district will be contained in the same classroom. Home

  10. Approved Private Schools These schools are very safe and organized in a way that is conducive to learning. For example, Franklin Academy in Connecticut, which specializes in teaching non-verbal students, has a 3:1 student to teacher ratio. Home

  11. General Education with Pull-out Specialist Students are included in a regular education classroom, but are pulled out to strengthen their individualized trouble areas. Home
