Communications & Controls • Focuses on interchange and application control structures, control and management transaction sets, EDI architecture, data security, service specifications and other technical issues associated as they relate to the standards and their processes • Maintains multiple foundation documents, such as CICA technical specifications, design rules and guidelines • Provides technical liaison on behalf of ASC X12 with national and international organizations involved in related activities

Finance • Develops and maintains X12 EDI and XML standards including technical guidelines focusing on financial e-business models • Develops and maintains financial business models related to areas such as credit card processes, financial remittance delivery, invoice, and payment transactions. Real estate and mortgage lending messages are also developed and maintained using EDI and XML standards. • Develops payment systems architecture to include data security and data content management for financial standards • Promotes the use of X12 EDI and XML standards across the financial services industry

  11. Transportation • Develops and maintains X12 EDI and XML standards associated with transportation, including air, marine, rail, and motor freight. X12I's work also includes standards associated with logistics, multi-modal, and Customs. • Serves as a technical liaison to other recognized organizations involved in EDI and XML activities related to the subcommittee's work

  12. Technical Assessment • Maintains the X12.3 Data Element Dictionary, X12.22 Segment Directory, and ASC X12 Design Rules and Guidelines • Processes, controls and coordinates requests for changes to the X12 EDI and XML standards and ensures that ASC X12-approved design rules, guidelines and syntax rules are adhered to during the development and maintenance processes

Government • Offers representatives from all levels of government the opportunity to influence the design and development of standardized data exchange transactions to conduct the business of government. Transaction types ranging from contracting to commercial vehicle reporting, to revenue reporting and voter registration information all come under the purview of this subcommittee. • Develops governmental transactions to electronically exchange information among and between agencies at the local, state, and federal levels of government and with their private sector constituents.

  14. Supply Chain • Supply chain encompasses the entire business process, starting with the acquisition of raw materials through to the product user. • The Supply Chain Subcommittee designs, develops and maintains standards for existing and new business requirements relating to supply chain excluding transportation and finance. It actively pursues integration and coordination with other areas including, but not limited to finance, transportation and insurance (property and casualty; life and annuity; healthcare), or any other functional areas. • The following areas are included in the subcommittee’s scope • Inventory management • Materials management • Planning and coordination of distribution • Procurement • Product Data • Sourcing • Warehousing

  15. Insurance • Develops and maintains X12 EDI and XML standards, standards interpretations and guidelines as they relate to all aspects of insurance and related business processes • Includes standards development and maintenance activities relating to property, casualty, health care, life, annuity, reinsurance, pensions and reporting to regulatory agencies, and government health care programs like Medicare & Medicaid • Serves as a liaison with complementary health care and insurance standards organizations, such as HL7, NCPDP, and WEDI to collaborate on standards-related activities

Collaboration & Outreach Task Group • The Collaboration and Outreach Task Group (COTG) is chartered to assess and identify areas to address in the following matters: • Establishment and continuance of relationships with organizations external to ASC X12. • As derived from external organizations, make recommendations on improving ASC X12 standards development activities through a best practice approach • Areas of focus • Identify and/or assess electronic messaging organizations for possible collaboration with ASC X12 • Suggest processes that would assist and promote collaborative relationships between ASC X12 and other electronic messaging organizations • Suggest ways to position ASC X12 as a major contributor in both domestic and international electronic messaging • Support, and facilitate collaboration with external organizations • Facilitate external resource acquisition activities and initiatives

  17. Marketing Task Group • Chartered to assist in promoting ASC X12 products, membership and sponsorship, and increase the visibility of ASC X12 in its role as the recognized cross-industry forum for electronic document exchange • Areas of focus: • Analyze, prioritize and recommend the marketing strategies to be conveyed by ASC X12 • Work with the ASC X12 secretariat and ASC X12 subcommittees to develop and distribute promotional materials • Recommend marketing activities for inclusion in Standing Document 4 (SD4). • Design and develop a marketing budget with the ASC X12 secretariat and the marketing communication collateral that can be used to effectively and consistently convey ASC X12's value

Policies and Procedures • Maintains the ASC X12 policies and procedure documents that relate to X12 EDI and XML • Develops a framework for common approaches to EDI and XML development within ASC X12 • Drafts and recommends new or changed procedures documents and, after ASC X12 Steering Committee approval, coordinates the membership balloting process with DISA, if balloting is required • Interprets ANSI policies and procedures as these relate to ASC X12's operation and consults with ANSI on relevant issues • Reviews and submits implementation plans to the Steering Committee for approval for publishing new X12 standards versions

  19. Technical Advisory • Chartered to review and monitor the technical infrastructure necessary for supporting X12's standards development activities. It serves in an advisory role to the X12 Steering Committee. • Evaluate requirements from X12 members for the infrastructure and recommend secretariat priorities to the Steering Committee. • Evaluate solutions proposed by the secretariat. Make recommendations regarding proposed solutions to the Steering Committee. • Oversee DISA work on pilot projects of proposed solutions, and report to the Steering Committee. • Monitor secretariat performance in supporting the requirements and infrastructure and report to the Steering Committee.

  20. Business Development • Chartered to assist and make recommendations to the ASC X12 Steering Committee in promoting ASC X12 products, membership and sponsorship, and to increase the visibility of ASC X12 in its role as the recognized cross industry forum for electronic document exchange. • Research revenue enhancements and strategies for ASC X12 • Pursue Steering Committee approved funding opportunities • Recommend strategies designed to improve membership
