  4. What is MSBO Certification? • Voluntary program • Offers practical information that will help school business officials succeed and excel in their employment • Establishes a basis for advancing professionalism

  5. What is MSBO Certification? • Provides school district with assurance that a base of knowledge has been achieved • Endorsed by Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) and Michigan Association of School Administrators (MASA)

  6. Who May Become Certified? • Any current MSBO member • Any aspiring school business official who would like to obtain personal growth

  7. Why Should I Become Certified? • Demonstrates a dedication to your profession • Practical information that you can use • Networking with like professionals • Personal recognition

  8. How Do I Qualify? • Bachelor’s Degree by an approved College • Employed by a Michigan School District • Member of MSBO

  9. Classes for School Technology Management Certification • Technology in Education (6 hours) • Technology in Administration (6 hours) • Technology in the Classroom (6 hours) • Administrative Software Applications (3 hours)

  10. Classes for School Technology Management Certification • Grant/Fund Writing (3 hours) • Implementation & Planning (6 hours) • Student Services Software Applications in Education (3 hours) • Technology Policies (3 hours)

  11. Classes for School Technology Management Certification • Working with the Architect (3 hours) • Principles of Education (3 hours) • Public Relations and Internal Communications (3 hours) • Purchasing (3 hours)

  12. Classes for School Technology Management Certification • Team Leadership (3 hours) • Wrap-up session (2 hours) • Electives (6 hours) – courses outside of this track

  13. How Do I Begin the Program? • Fill out a Letter of Commitment • Confirmation will be sent to the individual

  14. How Long Does It Take To Complete? • Three years from the time you fill out the Letter of Commitment

  15. What If I Have Years of Experience? • Fill out application and have reviewed • Grand parenting (must first have Bachelor’s Degree) • 6-10 years of school experience • 18 hours and the wrap-up session • 11-14 years of school experience • 12 hours and the wrap-up session

  16. What If I Have Years of Experience? • Grand parenting (must first have Bachelor’s Degree) • Over 15 years of school experience • 6 hours and the wrap-up session

  17. What If I Have Years of Experience Without Bachelor’s Degree? • Need to have 10 years of experience to waive Bachelor’s Degree requirement • Required to take the full 59 hours • An application must be filled out to review credentials and evaluated on a case-by-case basis

  18. What Do I Do To Receive My Certificate? • Before taking the Wrap-up Session, an application must be completed • All necessary documents must accompany application as outlined • $60.00 application fee must be paid

  19. How Do I Maintain My Certification? • Continuing education requirements must be approved, job-related education • 180 hours for CFO or 18 SB-CEUs or six semester credit hours • 90 hours for all other tracks or 9 SB-CEUs or three semester credit hours • MSBO will notify members of status

  20. How Do I Renew My Certification? • A renewal application indicating completion of necessary professional development must be provided to MSBO for review • $30.00 renewal fee is collected • New certificate is issued
