  7. Catholic teaching on life after death • Hell – Those who refuse to believe or those who die without repenting of a mortal sin. • Jesus will come back to earth and the dead will be raised, the souls reunited with their bodies and God will judge everyone • A new heaven and earth will be made and the resurrected will live there. The resurrected from hell will return there forever. From ‘Matters of Life and Death’ by Clare Dempsey, http://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/GCSE-RE-Powerpoints-6025430/

  11. Other Christian teachings on life after death • Evangelical Protestants - believe that the souls of the dead stay in the grave until the end of the world when the dead will be raised to join the living before God who will judge them. • Christians who have been forgiven go to heaven, those that have sinned and not repented go to hell.. • Some Christians believe that all non-Christians go to hell but others think they will be given a chance to become Christian. From ‘Matters of Life and Death’ by Clare Dempsey, http://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/GCSE-RE-Powerpoints-6025430/

  12. The immortality of the Soul • The soul lives on after death and may go to heaven immediately. Most of these Christians do not believe in hell and think there may be levels of heaven where people can continue their religious learning. • These Christians think that there will be an afterlife for all people and all religions but how people have lived in this life determines what happens there. From ‘Matters of Life and Death’ by Clare Dempsey, http://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/GCSE-RE-Powerpoints-6025430/
