- Simple (two-part or three-part)
- Compound (each section could be a two-part or three-part)

- Two main sections

- Most Baroque dance movements are in binary form (ex. gavotte, waltz, etc.)

- Open construction (ends with a half cadence or cadence in a related key)

- Second section
- Longer than first
- Closed construction (ends with a perfect authentic cadence in original key)
