  4. Personal Vision Statement

  5. According to the SSA, if you take 100 men and women at the start of their careers and follow them for 40 years to retirement age, here’s what you’ll find: 54 = Broke 36 = Dead 5 = Keep Working 4 = Financially Secure 1 =Wealthy

  6. FOCUS

  7. Personal Vision Statement Good: “I am a young, intelligent person aspiring to become one like no other while pursuing an education in the field of communications, marketing, and business leadership.” Better: “Communications and marketing student aspiring to become a business leader.” • Action Items: • Join a volunteer work team to raise my profile. • Become involved with Toastmasters to improve communication skills. • Read Top 5 business books as ranked on Amazon

  8. Short History • Founded on February 4, 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes while at Harvard • Got the idea from a student / faculty pamphlet in boarding school informally known as the “Face Book” • Used to be for students only. Now open to anyone over 13 with a valid email. • Political candidates were the first to be allowed to have what are now known as “fan” pages. • Has been blocked in Syria, China,Vietnam, and Iran….and countless workplaces.

  9. Rules of the Road • Facebook is a wonderful way to keep in touch with friends and family. • Facebook can definitely help build your personal brand. • Facebook is not the enemy. A profile is encouraged, but not right for everyone. • Employers have ways to research you on Facebook regardless of your privacy settings. • Facebook is the most powerful new medium in marketing since the invention of the television. • No one cares about your mafia, your lost chicken, your virtual drink, or your Sex and the City doppelganger.
