  1. How am I unique? Thinking Reflective thinking helps us make connections about who we are Relating to Others We need to appreciate and support others and find unity through diversity. uniqueness Longburn primary school Term 2-3, 2009 Managing Self Perseverance and commitment is needed to complete projects. Using language, symbols & texts We can use language to communicate and inform an audience about our ideas with impact. Participating & Contributing The role you have in a group and how you interact with others affect all of people in the group. Deeper understandings

  2. How am I unique? Our learning journey…

  3. In the beginning… First we looked at what we had to focus on in our learning – our deeper understandings. We experimented and investigated what these meant to us. We knew that the key things we were working on through all our learning were: • Perseverance • Commitment • Motivation • Communication • Taking on roles • Accepting Differences • Reflective Thinking

  4. In the beginning… Next we looked at all the different things that are special to us and to New Zealand – what makes us who we are! We looked at New Zealand icons like Kiwiana, we looked at ourselves and our families, we looked at our community and our cultures. All of this helped us to understand more about our uniqueness and got us thinking about how we could share this with each other and our community…

  5. How am I unique? We decided to share our learning through performing with the arts… So next we had arts exploration days to help set us up for creating a performance. Take a look…

  6. Daring Dancing… We all looked at the key elements of dance with Ms Burtenshaw and how we could use this to communicate our ideas…

  7. Making music… Mr Rickard took us through the key elements of music like beat, rhythm, tone and how we could use this to communicate…

  8. Dynamite drama… Mr Rea got us to experiment with different ways to use drama …

  9. Alluring art… In visual arts we looked at colour, shading, tone and blending with Miss Matangi…

  10. How am I unique? All these things helped us decide what we would specialise in for creating our performance… So we chose whether we would be in creating music, dance, props, scenery, costumes, or front of house… But we still didn’t even have a script so…

  11. How am I unique? We got two people from each class to meet with Miss Matangi and Ms Burtenshaw to come up with ideas for our performance based on our learning about what makes us unique… After that we selected a group of script writers to write the script using our ideas (Ms Burtenshaw & Miss Matangi helped) and then we were able to hold auditions and get started on creating our performance! Apart from the main actors who were always working on their acting, everyone helped contribute in their different specialty groups!

  12. How am I unique? Our performance was about two NZ superheroes and one had lost his memory because of an attack by an evil Aussie villain. The NZ superheroes had to go on a journey to get back his powers and memory so they could defeat the Aussie villain! All the powers and memories he had to get and the challenges he faced were to do with the key things from our deeper Understandings: Perseverance, commitment, motivation, communication, taking roles, accepting difference and being a reflective thinker

  13. Presenting our learning… Take a look at our how our performance went… The best bit was – we created it all ourselves!

  14. Rehearsing…

  15. Getting ready…

  16. The big night…

  17. At the end… One of the things we were focusing on was being a reflective thinker so we had to reflect on our learning of course! Here’s some clips showing some reflections…
