Measurements (based on container) • 1 juice glass (sm. glass)= 120cc • 1 water glass = 180cc • 1lg glass = 240cc • 1 coffee cup = 120cc • 1 sm bowl = 120cc • 1 soup bowl = 200cc • 1 sm. bag IV fluid = 500cc • 1 lg. bag IV fluid = 1000cc • 1 bag IV antibiotics = 250cc • 1 water pitcher = 1000cc

  4. Normal I&O (Adults) • Input – about 1500 ml /day • Output – about 2000ml / day

  5. Terms to Know • Edema – excess fluid in the body • Dehydration – excess fluid lost • Intake & Output should be within 500cc or less • Ex. – • Intake = 2000cc Output = 1600cc • Intake = 3000cc Output = 1000cc • Intake = 1500cc Output = 1300cc

  7. Safety Factors • Standard precautions (gloves worn while measuring fluids) • Gloves OFF while recording I&O • Wash hands after removing gloves
