  3. OPTION 1: Code Compliant Egress System TRAVEL DIST. < 250’ • 3 egress stairs for code-compliance (exit separation/travel distance/common path travel)

  4. OPTION 2: 2 Stair Layout (Variance) TRAVEL DIST. > 250’ COMMON PATH > 100’ • 2 stairs being provided for egress • Variance required • Travel distance and common path of travel not code compliant

  5. OPTION 3: Stair and Mucking Drift Layout (Variance) COMMON PATH > 100’ TRAVEL DIST. > 250’ • One stair and mucking drift being provided for egress • Variance required • Travel distance and common path of travel not code compliant • Mucking drift is not a code compliant means of egress • Mucking drift should meet the following items for justification: • Able-bodied staff be at the bottom of the cavern (slope ~ 20ﹾ) • Flashlights provided at egress door to mucking drift • No public at the bottom of the Cavern • Egress drills will be conducted • No combustible materials in the ramp (no suppression system)

  6. OPTION 4: Stair and Alimak Lift (Variance / No Alimak Provided) COMMON PATH > 100’ TRAVEL DIST. > 250’ • One stair and Alimak lift being provided for egress • Variance required • Travel distance and common path of travel not code compliant • Alimak lift is not a code compliant means of egress • Alimak lift will require the following for justification: • Standby power will be provided for the Alimak lift • The Alimak lift will be operational when exposed to water in case of a sprinkler discharge
