  1. CEN Education Day 24 February 2010 The Implementation of Feeding Support in Dundee Schools: an Education Department Perspective Alison Siddons, Co-ordinator: Additional Support Needs

  2. CEN Education Day Provision of education at three levels within the city : • Mainstream • Mainstream with an enhanced level of provision: primary and secondary • Specialist provision: early years to secondary

  3. CEN Education Day Children with feeding issues supported by a range of NHS and Education staff: • NHS nursing staff based in special school and provide outreach to mainstream schools • Paediatric Outreach team based in Ninewells (Tayside- wide remit) • Paediatric Outreach Team provision of protocols and training • Parents and/or carers • NHS staff jointly funded by NHS and Education • Education staff who volunteer to undertake such duties • Allied Health Professional support from Speech and Language Therapy colleagues

  4. CEN Education Day Education staff involved in this process: • Early Years Practitioners • Additional Support Needs Assistants • Teaching staff • Other members of support staff: auxiliaries; classroom assistants

  5. CEN Education Day Issues: • Appropriate legislation • Prior planning: major and minor transitions • Partnership working • Job descriptions and remits: national and local • Joint funded posts • Recruitment and selection processes • Range and location of NHS structures • Confidentiality • Range of ITsystems • The Administration of Medicines in Schools- Scottish Government 2001 • DCC Health and Safety Guidelines • Job remits and descriptions post Single Status • SJNC draft job descriptions: 1, 2, 3

  6. CEN Education Day Future Developments and Improvements • To continue the planned process of INSET for support staff within Education by NHS colleagues • Inclusion of training within programme for potential employees: CAs; ASNAs • Clearer procedure for identification of children with such issues • Inclusion of relevant NHS staff in planning for transitions • Regular and planned liaison with Paediatric Outreach team; currently adhoc and case by case basis
