Alfa Chemistry Catalysts Launches C-H Activation Catalysts for the Science Community The possibility of direct introduction of a new functionality via direct C-H bond transformation is a highly attractive strategy in covalent synthesis. To further facilitate scientists’ research work on carbon-hydrogen bond activation, Alfa Chemistry Catalysts recently announces to provide varieties of C-H activation catalysts, which are cost-effective and of high quality. Composed only of two elements, carbon and hydrogen, hydrocarbon is an important fuel and chemical raw material. C-H activation is a chemical reaction in which carbon-hydrogen bonds are cleaved and replaced by carbon-X bonds. Catalysts commonly used in such modification processes are transition metals such as Pd, Ru and Rh. “Because of the omnipresence of C-H bonds in organic compounds, they have become highly attractive targets for the installation of functional groups in a hope to construct valuable molecular scaffolds. Therefore, C-H activation has become an important, modern tool for organic synthesis,” says the Marketing Chief of Alfa Chemistry Catalysts. “Based on different mechanisms of action, there are three types of C-H activation, which are: Oxidative addition, SEAr type reaction, σ-bond metathesis.” In order to achieve truly sustainable catalytic C-H activation, significant research efforts have focused on the development of homogeneous catalytic systems, for example, the use of Mg, Ca, Mn, Fe, Cu, and Zn. Catalysts based on these highly abundant, inexpensive, readily available, and also biorelevant metals exhibit unique behavior in reactions in terms of reactivity or selectivity. Application of C-H activation catalysts: C-H activation catalysts can be applied in the fields of both organic chemisty and biochemistry. The development of C-H activation methods has had a major impact on the synthesis of natural products. C-H activation and functionalization has now become a key concept that cannot easily be ignored in the design of synthetic work.
