  4. General Information • This course will require all scholars to have all hands on deck. In Theatre I, scholars will cover the basics of theatre and learn how to interpret the “drama” behind it. This year will include the basis of theatre history, improvisation, pantomime and mime, voice and diction, acting, and theatre’s relation to real world experiences.

  5. Expectations • Scholars will be expected to perform scenes, monologues, dialogues, and participate in full productions or One-Acts at the end of every semester. • Scholars are required to complete all homework assignments or ANY outside reading. • Scholars are expected to give 100% to ensure that safety remains first. • Scholars are expected to participate in all class discussions and debates regarding theatre. • Scholars are to arrive to class on time, EVERYDAY. • Scholars are fully responsible for the upkeep of their study guide composition book and MYP Process Journal (PJ).

  6. Late Policy • Only scholars who are absent will have the opportunity to make up any work or notes. It is that scholar’s responsibility to check the “What I Missed” section after class. They will have until the next class block to turn in the assignment. If a scholar needs to make up a quiz/test due to absences, they must get with me after class to schedule a make-up date for that assessment after school. Absolutely NO LATE WORK will be accepted in this course.

  7. Plagiarism • All written work is to be individually produced. • • Plagiarism is the use of the written work of others (either direct copies or close • paraphrases) as one’s own original work. If quotations and/or passages from other • works are used in papers, they must be accorded the proper citation in order to avoid • any misunderstandings about plagiarism. • • When there is evidence that a student has committed plagiarism, copied the work of • others, allowed others to copy their work, cheated on an exam, altered class material • or scores, or has inappropriate possession of exams, or sensitive material, the incident • will be investigated by teacher and administration. The consequences for academic • dishonesty are severe.

Course Materials –(Due August 11, 2014) • *** USB port (this is a mandatory requirement for MYP Arts and most be used solely for Theatre ) • *** Flexible 1 inch 3-Ringed Binder (for Process Journal or “PJ”) • *** 2 SPIRAL notebooks [1 a semester] –or- 4 composition books [2 a semester] (for study guide notes and for in-class review) • *** Post-its • *** Pencils / sharpener • *Glue stick • *Scissors • *Black / blue ink pens • *Highlighter • *index cards • *** Applicable strictly to Theatre I course * can be paired/used with other content

Continued…. • Assessments – Unit Exams, Process Journal (PJ), quizzes, stage presentations (monologues, dialogues, group scenes, end of semester performances, projects • Classwork – Study Guide Notes, Independent/Guided Practice, in-class stage presentations • Homework- any assignment that goes home and is to be returned the next class period for a grade. (ex. Syllabus) • Participation- Classroom discussions, demonstrating volunteers, 100% engagement
