  6. Credibility • Speaker Credibility • The way your character directly influences the listeners’ willingness to receive and accept you and your ideas. Essential to speaking success. • AKA- ethos (Aristotle)

Establishing Credibility • Be prepared • Show that you are ethical and civil • Show that you are competent • Use an objective tone when citing credentials • Own material by speaking conversationally • Use I-language (I, me, mine, we, us, ours) • Be dynamic (charisma) • Show that you want to communicate (enthusiasm) • Not frisky puppies or rah-rah cheerleaders • Dress the part • Academic (1 degree nicer), Business (follow standards) • Look at your audience
