  2. Search Use your website links to find: Ophelia, by John Everett Millais (Tate Gallery) and Virheroicussublimisby Barnett B. Newman (MoMA) Insert the images into your blog, referencing them properly. (Title, artist, date, medium, size and where it is housed)

  3. Describe • Describe each of the artworks, using the gallery guides to help. • Describe subject matter, colour, line, detail and composition.

  4. Compare the works What differences are there between these two artworks? What did each of the artists think was important? What did they think was less important?

  5. Watch the video http://smarthistory.khanacademy.org/representation-and-abstraction.html After listening, write a short commentary on each of the paintings: Describe each of them in turn. (Subject matter, colour, line, composition) Compare the two, using the terms “representational” and “abstract”.
