  2. Where is Dominican Republic located? • The Dominican Republic is situated on the eastern part of the second-largest island in the Greater Antilles, Hispaniola. It shares the island roughly at a 2:1 ratio with Haiti.

  3. Flag, Motto, Anthem: • Motto: "Dios, Patria, Libertad"  (Spanish)("God, Fatherland, Liberty") • Quisqueyanos valientes ("Valiant Quisqueyans") is the national anthem of the Dominican Republic

  4. Sports: • Baseball is by far the most popular sport in the Dominican Republic • The Dominican Republic also regards football (soccer) as its third most popular sport, after baseball and basketball

  5. History: • Successive waves of Arawak migrants, moving northward from the Orinoco delta in South America, settled the islands of the Caribbean. Around AD 600, the TaínoIndians, arrived on the island, displacing the previous inhabitants. They were organized into cacicazgos (chiefdoms), each led by a cacique (chief). The final Arawak migrants, the Caribs, began moving up the Lesser Antilles in the 12th century, and were raiding Taíno villages on the island's eastern coast by the time the Spanish arrived in 1492.
