CPOE rollout Approx 8 early adopters of CPOE in 4 specialties (<10% of patients with med orders via POM) Dec 2010 kicked off CPOE era at a specially called Medical Staff meeting Zynx used as a knowledge source to build evidence-based order sets that are then imported into MEDITECH Built 30 IM order sets Trained and launched hospitalists in April 2011 Now >45% CPOE for medication ordering

Recommendations Practice what you preach Be honest about pros and cons when rolling out the topic– physicians can’t be “cheer-led” Provide adequate “hardscape” Terminals (+/- portable devices) Speed Access Recognize impact on other services– all departments were affected by CPOE Be available and present on the floors Offer refresher courses

  5. Recommendations PDoc may be an entre into the computer for some services Hospitalists found PDoc on their own and self-taught
