  2. Ghost City of Feng Du • Fengdu got its name as the Ghost City in the Eastern Han Dynasty. Two officials from the imperial court yin Changsheng and Wang Fengping decided to come to Ming Mountain to practic Taoist teachings. Though self-cultivation they became immortals. Combining their surnames produces the term “Yinwang” meaning the “King of Hell”. Later, during the Tang Dynasty, a stupendous temple was erected on Ming Mountain depicting life in hell. It displays demonic images and torture devices and reflects the notion that good people will be treated well in the afterlife and that bad people will be punished by going to hell. In the Chinese vision of the afterlife, the dead (or ghost) must undergo three major test to enter the netherworld. These test are taken at three locations – Nothing-To-Be-Done-Bridge; Ghost Torturing pass and the Tianzi (son of heaven) palace. These three location are among many attractions in the Ghost City.

  3. Three Gorges Dam • When completed in 2009, the Three Gorges Dam will be the largest hydroelectric dam in the world. Stretching a mile across the Yangtze and rising six hundred feet, it will be visible from the moon! It's purpose is to bring much needed power to inland China and to control the periodic destructive flooding of the Yangtze, but it will also displace more than a million people, submerge ancient temples and burial grounds, endanger or wipe out rare animals like the Yangtze River dolphin, and cover some of the world's most magnificent scenery.

  4. Yellow Crane Tower • Tourists can obtain a fine view of the Yangtze River from the top of the tower. Yellow Crane Tower is considered one of the Four Great Towers of China. In its modern version it has the appearance of an ancient tower but is built of modern materials and includes an elevator. Displays are presented at each level. To the east on the hill, a large temple bell may be struck by tourists for a small fee. During the week-long celebration of China's National Day (October 1), court dances are demonstrated in the western yard.
