  2. Overview • Objective • Communications Payload • Imaging Payload • Questions

  3. Objective • Contain and protect the components of an imaging and commutations payload thought flight. • Ensure that constant communication is possible through out the flight.

  4. Communications PayloadRequirements • Weigh less than 4 lbs. • Ensure constant communication with ground station • Ensure that the components remain active through out flight • Ensure that all components survive impact and continue to transmit position

  5. Communications Payload Design • Material • E-glass fibers • Wet lay-ups • Configurations and mounting • Foam core insulation • Components attached using stand-offs • Antenna outside of box • Attached to parachute and balloon with rod through entire structure • Testing • Cold tested to -30°C

  6. Imaging PayloadRequirements • Weigh less than 6 lbs • Ensure constant communication with ground station • Ensure that the components remain active through out flight • Ensure that all components survive impact

  7. Imaging Payload Design-Materials • Carbon fiber • Honeycomb • Peel-ply and Wet lay-ups 2-layers carbon Honeycomb 2-layers carbon

  8. Imaging Payload Configurations and Mounting • Foam core insulation • Components attached using stand-offs • Antenna outside on top of box • Attached to parachute and balloon with Eye-bolts • Hinged door
