  5. What is Records Exchange and what is MSIX? Vision • Make it easy for educators of migrant children to get the student information they need, when they need it. Mission • Ensure the appropriate school enrollment, placement, and accrual of credits of migrant children.

What is Records Exchange and what is MSIX? • Allow for exchangeof accurate, timely educational and health information on mobile migrant children • Provide better quality services to migrant children • Lessen the impact of mobility on a migrant child’s education • Decrease migrant drop-out rate • Allow for accurate description of the migrant population; demographics and mobility patterns

  7. What is Records Exchange and what is MSIX? HOW IS THIS DONE? MSIX (Migrant Student Information Exchange) • Web-based solution that links states’ migrant student record databases to facilitate the successful exchange and use of migrant student information on a nationwide basis

What information is in MSIX? • MSIX contains 71 Minimum Data Elements (MDEs) that create a consolidated record for each migrant student • MDEs are sent from the states’ migrant databases via scheduled uploads • MDEs are used for enrollment, course placement, and credit accrual • MDEs fall into 4 Categories:

How can this information beused to help migrant children? • Be alerted that medical or special education conditions exist • Notify another State when a child moves away • Gain access to other State’s course catalogs and standardized tests for placement purposes • Obtain or confirm student’s demographic information • Place students in the correct courses • Determine missing credits • Place in the appropriate grade level • Establish assessment needs • View IEP and LEP flags for follow-up • Communicate with prior / future schools • Request the immunization record from previous enrollment
