  1. Cool Brees Moving away from just writing questions and answers in an interview narrative.

  2. 2:10 – Notice how Steve Kroft gives background information instead of just asking the question and letting Drew Brees answer. Background Information

  3. Steve Kroft: Do you think you can be too short as a quarterback? Drew Brees: I don’t believe that. I don’t believe that you can be too short as a quarterback. It’s not about height; it’s about what you have here (points to his heart) and here (points to his brain). Question and Answer

  4. I asked Drew Brees if he thinks you can be too short as a quarterback? His answer was, “I don’t believe that. I don’t believe that you can be too short as a quarterback. It’s not about height; it’s about what you have here (points to his heart) and here (points to his brain).” He doesn’t think you can be too short. BAD EXAMPLE!!

  5. Steve uses one quote to transition to another quote or topic. • “And in his case, it is about a lot more than just heart and brains…..” Transitions

  6. Background (Set up the quote instead of just retelling the question) • Quote (give quote and introduce if necessary) • Commentary (create meaning from the quote for your reader) The Process

  7. Why did Drew Brees have a choice of where he was going to play next after playing in San Diego? (What events happened previously to choosing New Orleans?) • What two teams were looking at him? Background info

  8. Steve Kroft: What made you choose New Orleans? • Drew Brees: This was the only team that really looked at me and said, ‘we trust you, we have confidence in you, we believe in you.’ And sometimes all you need is for someone to believe in you. Practice

  9. Between Miami and New Orleans, Drew Brees decided that New Orleans was the best place for him. It is easy to see why when Drew explains, “This was the only team that really looked at me and said, ‘we trust you, we have confidence in you, we believe in you.’ And sometimes all you need is for someone to believe in you.”With so many questions about coming back from his injury, it was New Orleans belief in him that made the decision a no brainer. Example

  10. Brees was down, and maybe down for good. After his injury, not many teams wanted him. But Brees chose New Orleans saying,“Thiswas the only team that really looked at me and said, ‘we trust you, we have confidence in you, we believe in you.’ And sometimes all you need is for someone to believe in you.” A broken city is helping to fix a broke person, and a broken person is helping fix a broken city because of belief. Student Example

  11. 1. Lastly, please identify one of your direct quotes from your interview and practice this same process on the quarter sheet of paper provided. 2. When you are finished, please hand this to Mr. Lochhead and then begin working on AR and your dialectical journals. Check for Understanding
