  2. A Private Sector Led Initiative imenis a private sector-led project initiated by PT Jaring Data Interaktif (JDI) and consists of a consortium of organizations who are primary stakeholders in the ICT and education sector in Indonesia.

A Private Sector Led Initiative • PT Jaring Data Interaktif (JDI) • Independently operates the 24-hour SWARA parliamentary channel (similar to C-SPAN) established with assistance from USAID & IFES • is the web development and support provider for the Indonesian Election Commission (KPU) for the upcoming elections for the period until October 2004 • Has supported several other national initiatives related to the media sector as part of its responsibility as a good corporate citizen

The imenObjectives • To transmit educational programs and materials to schools, universities, state agencies, civil society organizations, homes and businesses through direct broadcast of television, audio and data using satellite and cable transmissions. • To cover students, teachers, parents, caregivers, public officials, businesses, universities, colleges, civil society and other organizations by offering programs of instruction, training, distance learning and participatory civic education with interactive information, communications and emerging technologies • To provide a resource for Indonesia that can be used primarily to enhance reforms in education with coexistent benefits in programs of democratisation, health, governance, environment, ethnic and societal issues A Private Sector Led Initiative

  10. A Private Sector Led Initiative Today, research shows that 83% of the Indonesian population depend on television as their main source of information.

  11. A Private Sector Led Initiative imentherefore starts with extensive usage of TELEVISION as a 24-hour education channel, followed by radio & internet data channels.

A Private Sector Led Initiative The appeal of an audio-video media such as television helps us to create new audiences in places of learning that were previously not reached, in schools, universities, training centers and offices. (Today, television audiences are primarily in the homes, where education competes heavily with entertainment and mostly does not win the audience share battle)

About JDI • PT Jaring Data Interaktif has been involved in the following projects in the past that we believe serve as credentials to carry out the project as described in this proposal. • Swara Channel: We independently operate and manage SWARA Channel for the Indonesian Parliament. Initially funded by IFES and USAID, this channel has been established to promote transparency in the process of democracy. This is the local equivalent of US C-SPAN channel. • 2.Ministry of Education Programs – Siaran DIKTI and Siaran Pustekkom: Since 1999, we have supported the Ministry of Education to relay national educational programs on our channels for 60 minutes daily. • 3. Universitas Terbuka – Education Program: We air a 30 minute daily educational program, 7 days a week, to support over 230,000 students of UT all over Indonesia. • 4. Indonesian Parliament:Kommisi II – Internet Support: We have developed a website for Kommisi II and provide other training and web hosting support to them. Ikut Mencerdaskan Bangsa Melalui Pendidikan

  33. 5. Indonesian Parliament: MPR - Internet Support: We have developed Internet sites and provide several Internet services for the MPR. 6. KPU (Election Commission) - Internet Support and Training: We have developed the KPU website and have trained their staff in Internet and multimedia video production. 7. Social Organization Projects – We have supported several organizations with free of cost or on highly subsidized media services on both Q and Swara channels. Some of these clients are; International Republican Institute , National Democratic Institute, Yayasan Anak Bangsa Mandiri, Badan Koordinasi Penanaman Modal, Gereja Pantekosta di Indonesia, International Foundation for Election Systems We believe that our organization has the track record of being a socially responsible media through the projects we have handled in the past.
