  1. Multiplication and Division Unit of Study: Critical FCAT Review Areas Global Concept Guide: 1 of 3

  2. Content Development • When creating the Critical FCAT Review Areas we tried to identify the major areas that fourth grade students have struggled with in the past. • Use data such as district assessments (Form 2 and Mock FCAT), Unit tests, and performance tasks to determine the needs of your students. • Please make note of the percent of the FCAT that assesses each of the reporting categories.

  3. Content Development • Possible lesson flow for each day should include: • Select multiplication/division focus test questions from Mock FCAT or Form 2 District Assessments. Sample item questions and specifics for how the benchmark will be assessed can also be found in the item specs, which can be accessed by clicking on the hyperlinked benchmarks on each unit of study. • Students plan for and solve given problems. Whole group discussion points: • efficient strategies used to solve (mathematical and reading) • answer choices that could be eliminated and why • misconception/procedural error for incorrect answer choices (Ex: Why did the author write 25 or 26 as an answer choice?) • Was estimation used as a tool? How? • How do I check my work for accuracy? • Based on data and observations made during the problem solving part of the lesson, students then work in differentiated groups to engage in tasks selected from Reteach/Core/Enrich ideas referenced in this PowerPoint, as well as those differentiated activities (either used or not) from earlier Units of Study. {Unit 2, Unit 5, Unit 6, Unit 7}

  4. Differentiation: Reteach It is important for you to open and view these lessons to determine which are most appropriate for your students. • Small group instruction: select multiplication/division focus test questions from Mock FCAT or Form 2 District Assessments. • Florida Online Intervention Skills: • Skill 9: Problem Solving Strategy-Draw a Diagram • Skill 21: Multiples of 10’s, 100, and 1000’s • Skill 22: Estimate Products • Skill 33 and Skill 34: Model Division w/ remainders and Relate Division w/ subtraction • Destination Math Tutorials: • 2-digit multipliers • Dividing by a 1-digit number and the meaning of division • IXL Problem Solving Website: Interactive Multiplication and Division Word Problems • Multiplication/Division Equations Reteach R24

  5. Differentiation: Core It is important for you to open and view these lessons to determine which are most appropriate for your students. • Go Math Grab and Go Activities: • Activity 41 -Connecting Arrays to the Distributive Property. • Activity 32 -Modeling Base Ten • Activity 34 -Multi-Digit Multiplication • Voyages Anchor Lessons: Multiplying by 2-Digit Numbers(TE p. 304-307, SE p. 295-298) Estimating Quotients(TE p. 340-343, SE p. 331-334) • Go Math Benchmark Practice SE p. P37 -Word problem practice in multiplying/dividing using a diagram. • The Quotient Café: Use partial quotients to solve division problems.

  6. Differentiation: Enrich It is important for you to open and view these lessons to determine which are most appropriate for your students. • Go Math Big Idea Projects: • Food in Space - TE p. 1-2; Student Benchmark Practice Book P1-P2 • The Black-Footed Ferret – TE p. PG42-PG43; Student Benchmark Practice Book P323- P326 • Math Concept Readers (Click on image of book to view) • Students can read and respond to the questions at the end of the story. Then write their own math problems that relate to the story and have other students solve. • The Quotient Café: Use partial quotients to solve division problems
