Writing Topic Sentences • A Topic Sentence (the first sentence of a paragraph that contains content – your subject – and your position) explains to your reader what you will illustrate, show, or explain in your paragraph. It states the main idea of your paragraph. • E.g. Barbie on a pink background presents an image of women/girls that is unrealistic, demeaning, and dangerous to both girls and boys because it creates impossible standards.
