Activities • Participate in organization of project • Concur in appointment of project management • Discuss initial budget allocations • Aid in reviews • Internal review Oct ’00 • DOE/NSF Review Nov ’00 • Upcoming May internal and DOE/NSF reviews • Advise on selection of prototype Tier 2 Sites • Advise on personnel allocation to tasks, prioritization and hardware acquisition plans

Details of Issues Dealt With • Detailed revision and justification of numbers for Tier 1 and Tier 2 hardware needs (efficiencies, user disk space, additional simulation and re reconstruction, …) • Contingency vs management reserve • Timing for Tier 2 prototypes, pilots and production centers • Procedure for Tier 2 prototype site selection • Discussion of potential Tier 2 funding from NSF: project manager should control • Funding travails with NSF • Assignment of additional personnel to production support • Integration with Grid R&D projects • Common projects • Revised “baseline” based on stretched out new LHC schedule

  6. Future Plans • Continue to prioritize needs of collaboration for hardware acquisitions and software support • Continue to assist project management • Detailed discussion of multi tier model for distributed analysis (funding agencies have not yet bought in to Tier 2) • Is physics done at home or at a few central sites? • What is size of “critical mass” for useful analysis • Fully define role of Tier 2 centers • Establish mechanisms for short term feedback and prioritization
