  2. What is a Virtual Field Trip? • A tour from a website that is guided and narrated. • Students can follow along on the website easily with the click of a button. • An easy to follow tour that allows students to explore a place through the internet that a teacher can not easily bring them to physically.

  3. Why Virtual Field Trips? • They are the best way to put together important information that follow a specific theme. • Once the virtual field trip is published on the web the teacher can continue to go back to it year after year. • They challenge students to work with a new form of technology. • It will spark the interest of the students in a more exciting way. • They expose students to different cultures and environments.

  4. What types of products are produced? • To writeparagraphs or short stories • To createbrochures • To keep a diary of the field trip • To create an advertisement for the place visited • To create a commercial for the place visited

  5. Virtual Field Trips V. Real Field Trips • Similarities: • Group activities where students are working together and interacting with one another. • Involve active learning rather than passive. • Take the students mentally outside of the classroom and into a new learning environment.

  6. Virtual Field Trips V. Real Field Trips • Differences: • Virtual field trips can be repeated over and over again. • Virtual field trips allow the students to work at their own pace without feeling rushed. • Virtual field trips take the students places they normally would not be able to go. • Virtual field trips are safe and hazard free. • Virtual field trips lack sensory experience.

  7. How to Create a Virtual Field Trip • The teacher must: • Choose a location or destination • Make sure it is inline with state standards • Gather grade appropriate resources • Construct a webpage • Create meaningful tasks that will allow the students to learn • Create a rubric that will be used for assessment

  8. Do I have to create my own? • No, • There are many resources on the web that have virtual field trips already set up. • Let’s look at an example: • A Water Journey: The Aquifer Virtual Field Trip
